Our History

In 1861 the Wallenstein Hotel & Livery Station was built, six years before Canada was born.

The stagecoach came through town, dropping off the mail.

In 1906 the railway came to town.

This huge change, in time, eliminated the stagecoach routes. The Hotel was sold. The new owners turned it into a general store and post office. The Wallenstein General Store still has a post office which is operating today over a hundred years later.

The front part of the present building was the store with gas pumps on the corner of the porch. Newer gas pumps were on the side of the store with drive through on both sides. The only parking was in front of the store. The gas pumps were removed in 1990 and a much bigger parking area was made.

Parking space increased over the years with the latest improvement of cement poured over most of the property in 2020.
